Another hour's drive north is Liberia , the capital of Guanacaste province and the location of the new international airport. The airport is serviced from major connecting centers such as Dallas, Los Angeles, Toronto, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami.
A 30 minute drive east along the shore of the lake is Nuevo Arenal where there are a number of quaint restaurants and bed and breakfast homes. Another 30 minutes brings you around the far end of the lake and the large thriving tourist development area at La Fortuna. Here one finds the famous Tabacon hot springs and spa, 5 star accommodations, cable canopy tours, white water rafting, jungle walks horseback tours and a host of other activities.
